A common method of getting links is to use social bookmarking. Some social bookmarking sites are not only dofollow but they also have high page rank and are useful to help increase the overall link count to a page.

You could just spray your links to social bookmarking sites but there a few things you can do to improve the return for your effort:

Firstly ensure you have a range of titles and descriptions in your bookmarking. This helps to ensure a natural set of links.

The next suggestion takes a little work but is well worth the effort.

The following notes assume you are analysing JumpTags.com and you are using Firefox with SEOQuake installed.

  • Most social bookmarking sites have tags or categories pages.
  • Check your list of sites and find the ones which are dofollow.
  • Next use the following Google search or a variant of it (With SEOquake turned on) to list 100 of the tag pages (use advanced search to select 100 entries).
  • “inurl:http www jumptags com tags” site:jumptags.com
  • Check the PR of each page and sort in descending order. At the time of writing this search listed about 20 tag pages with a PR of 5 and many more with a PR of 4.
  • Make a list of the high ranking tags.

Yes, for the sharp eyed, Jumptags links are NoFollow, I just used it to illustrate the point. I will provide a list of do-follow bookmark sites in a later post.

Now when you do you social bookmarking, make sure your articles are relevant to some of the high PR tags and be sure to use them in your submission. This will give your bookmarks and target pages an extra boost.
